Applications for the 2008 Sponsorships are closed.  Applications for the 2009 Sponsorships will open in January, 2009.

Background:
The WINDPOWER Conference & Exhibition is an annual event sponsored by the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA). This year's conference, which will take place June 1-4, 2008 in Houston, Texas, is expected to bring together over 7,000 energy professionals and 400 exhibiting companies. Women of Wind Energy (WoWE) is a group of female professionals working in the wind energy industry (www.windustry.org/womenofwindenergy). The goal of the Rudd Mayer Memorial Sponsorship is to encourage the participation of women from all sectors of the energy industry, at the annual WINDPOWER 2008 Conference. The conference will offer the selected candidate(s) the opportunity to attend seminars on current wind energy issues, see exhibits on state of the art technology, meet distinguished women professionals, and talk with leading employers offering internships or permanent positions.

Sponsorship Amount:
The sponsorship will cover the cost of airfare, ground transportation to and from the airport, conference registration, meals, and lodging. If additional funds are available, some partial sponsorships may be awarded.

Who May Apply:
In general, the sponsorship is available to any woman who is interested in a career in the wind energy industry. Sponsorees are selected from all sectors of the wind industry including academic, service, maintenance, manufacturing, consulting, engineering, and finance.

Evaluation Criteria:
Applicants will be selected based on demonstrated interest in renewable energy technologies, academic achievement, work experience and the applicant's potential for future contributions to the wind energy community. Although women who currently work in wind energy may apply, preference will be given to students nearing degree completion, recent graduates and women interested in a career transition into the wind industry.

The application consists of a resume and one-page essay describing your interest and any previous experience in wind energy, your career goals, reasons for wanting to attend the WINDPOWER 2008 Conference, and how attendance at this conference will benefit you and your community, campus, or organization in these or future leadership roles. Also, describe any special circumstances or financial needs of which you feel we should be aware. If you are a student or recent graduate, please send an unofficial transcript.
