Wind for Schools South Dakota Educator Workshop

Mitchell, SD - The Wind for Schools Program and The National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project are pleased to announce the upcoming Wind for Schools South Dakota Educator Workshop. Classroom teachers involved and interested in the Wind for Schools Program will have a unique opportunity to learn about wind energy, wind generated electricity, and the use of data produced from wind installations in their classrooms. The workshop will be held June 1, 2009 from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm at Mitchell Technical Institute.

Minnesota Transmission Line to Carry Wind Energy

ST. PAUL, MN, April 16, 2009 — The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (MN PUC) has granted the CapX2020 utilities a Certificate of Need to construct three 345-kilovolt electric transmission lines in Minnesota. The three lines will run from Fargo, SD to Monticello, MN; from Hampton, MN  through Rochester, MN to La Crosse, WI; and from Brookings, SD to Hampton, MN.

The Western Area Power Administration (Western), an agency within the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), and Rural Utilities Service (RUS), an agency within the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), intend to jointly prepare an environmental impact statement (EIS) for the proposed PrairieWinds Project (Project) in South Dakota.
