A small wind machine needs to carry insurance to protect the equipment, just like any other large investment you make. If a once in one hundred year storm destroys the machine, liability insurance is important to protect yourself, others and the interconnecting utility against unforeseen circumstances.
Some states, such as Minnesota, mandate that the machine have a certain amount of liability insurance, while in other states utilities set their own requirements for insurance.
