WoWE Comes of Age, Announces Honors and Changes

Every year at its annual WINDPOWER luncheon, the Women of Wind Energy traditionally honors those women who are past, present and future movers and shakers in the industry. Karen Conover Celebrated as 2009 Woman of the Year

Karen Conover, founder of Global Energy Concepts and current Director of Wind Energy for DNV-GEC, is WoWE's 2009 Woman of the Year. Karen has over 20 years of experience with wind energy technology and other renewable energy applications, many of which continue to be employed in the industry today. Since 1995 she has served on the AWEA Board of Directors as the first and only woman. Read more here...

2009 Rising Star Award Honors Sarah Wright

WoWE has honored an emerging leader of wind energy through its 2009 Rising Star Award. Sarah Wright, Founder of Utah Clean Energy (UTC), won the award this year for her accomplishments in promoting wind, renewable energy and efficiency within the state of Utah. In addition to serving as UTC's executive director, Ms. Wright serves on Governor Huntsman's Energy Advisory Council and the Blue Ribbon Advisory Council on Climate Change. You can read more here...

WoWE Awards Rudd Mayer Memorial Fellowships to Seven Women

For women hoping to enter the wind industry, AWEA'S WINDPOWER conference is the perfect place to explore the market, meet potential employers, and network with others in the wind energy field. But for students and recent graduates, the cost of attending WINDPOWER can be prohibitive. Luncheons

Women of Wind Energy hosts an annual networking luncheon at AWEA's WINDPOWER to present the recipients of the Rudd Mayer Memorial Sponsorship, award the Woman of the Year Award and the Rising Star Award, and to build networks and contacts in the industry.

Women of Wind Energy List Serv

All women and men who support the increased participation of professional women in the wind energy industry are invited to participate in WoWE.

Rudd Mayer Memorial Fellowships

Each year, Women of Wind Energy awards multiple fellowships to women college students or recent graduates to attend the annual American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) WINDPOWER conference. The fellowship honors wind industry pioneer Rudd Mayer of Boulder, Colorado, who passed away in 2002.

Woman of the Year Award

Each year, WoWE recognizes one woman who truly stands out for her leadership, inspiration, and significant contributions to the expansion and improvement of the wind energy industry. She may be the leader of a company or organization, or work behind-the-scenes to resolve critical wind energy issues.

Rising Star Award

Each year, WoWE recognizes one woman who is relatively new to the wind energy industry but has already made a significant professional contribution. Reserved for women of all ages who are in the earlier years of their wind careers, the Rising Star Award recognizes unusual professional promise; demonstrated qualities of dedication, innovation, and creativity; and high competence.
