Freshwater Wind 2011

Detroit, MI - Freshwater Wind 2011 will bring together the entire Great Lakes offshore wind energy community to discuss the latest information and strategies developed to handle a series of unique freshwater challenges, including siting assessment, vessel construction and port management, as well as approaches to handling financing and navigating the 2011 government policy framework for developing this unique resource.

The opportunities associated with Great Lakes offshore wind power are vast- by some estimates, the resources would support over 700 GW of generation capacity-representing a long-term economic windfall in the form of tens of billions of dollars of investment, the revitalization of underutilized manufacturing capacity and a torrent of job creation. However, because this opportunity is so new and evolving so rapidly, only those who are able to fully understand the perspectives of many different players, from regulators to developers to financiers to suppliers, will be able to overcome the many real-world challenges involved and make the connections necessary in order to fully participate in this exciting industry.

  • Identify new opportunities in the development, financing, and buildout of the 740+ GW of offshore wind energy capacity in the Great Lakes Region
