Windustry Rolls Out New Curriculum for Installers

Seventeen Minnesota community and technical college instructors recently took part in Train-the-Trainer sessions on a new curriculum for Small Wind Energy Systems and are now prepared to offer courses on the subject.

The six-credit course material was produced by Windustry and written by experts, with support from the MN Office of Energy Security. It is the first of its kind in the country, designed to prepare installers for the written portion of the exam by North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP).

The Wind Energy Center is an interactive, museum-quality display within the Eco Experience at the Minnesota State Fair, in partnership with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. Developed and presented by Windustry, it teaches hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans each year about our great wind resource and how wind energy can provide both environmental and economic benefits to Minnesotans. This will be the fifth year of the Wind Energy Center, and promises to be the best yet, inspiring visitors to actively support and participate in small, midsize, and large wind energy development in Minnesota.

(January, 2011) Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) has released a 34-page report to the public: "Community Wind: Once Again Pushing the Envelope of Project Finance," by Dr. Mark Bolinger. The report describes innovative financing and organizational structures for five community wind projects constructed in 2010.

Windustry Awarded USDA Rural Business Enterprise Grant to develop a Small Wind Bulk-Buy program

Windustry was recently awarded a $275,000 Rural Business Enterprise Grant from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development office.

Windustry gained the support of the USDA in 2009 to launch a national Landowner Wind Energy Association Resource Center to technical support to rural communities seeking to develop community owned wind energy projects. The Center has been conducting feasibility studies to develop rural wind energy projects Montana, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

Drexel University Commits to 100 Percent Clean, Renewable Wind Energy

(PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 7) Drexel University announced it will purchase Renewable Energy Certificates equal to 100 percent of its energy use, ensuring that 84,268 megawatt hours of electricity will be matched annually with wind energy entering the electricity grid.

This purchase will place Drexel among the top five university purchasers in the nation, according to the current Environmental Protection Agency's Green Power Partnership rankings.

The Renewable Energy Credits will be supplied by renewable energy marketer and developer Community Energy.
